Wacky Cake

My husband had this recipe for  Wacky Cake while, and we've started making the cake regularly, once a week! It's so easy to make! It's good for those that don't want egg or milk in the baking. It's ready in 30 min or less!

Recipes can be found on the following link (they are all a bit different):

Wacky Cake Vegan

We have changed few things:
- we add orange juice instead of vinegar
- and we don't add water
- we add 1 tablespoon more of Vanilla

Something to think about and be challenged. I always get a bit stressed and sad during Christmas... I pray that we challenge ourselves this Christmas to make a little difference in this world.

Newfie mittens!

My first newfie mittens! I made these last month, and they were so easy! I thought they were going to be hard, but not at all. They also didn't take long to make.. well it took me about two weeks, but I was knitting here and there not for a long time. And it was really cheap. I got the yarn from poundworld in England. They really have good yarn for things like mittens, hats, or toys.

The patterns are from the following sites:

Free Newfie Mittens by Balkan Style

Newfoundland by Maggknits

I also made these mittens some time last year. I undid a pair of glovesI got from Peru (they were too big for me) and made these ones. And they are a bit small, but I like them for a not so cold Spring/Fall.

the alps in Europe

This was taken in August. I was on my way to London Gatwick from Rome. The alps on the way were beautiful.

Jesus had a wife?

So, I read this article my friend wrote in his blog. Very interesting, I don't know much about history, and never liked knowing more about history, but sometimes, I feel like I should know more...

Airplane sugar cookies

Recently I've been thinking a lot about making sugar cookies so that I can use the Airplane cutter I bought couple months ago at a store. So finally today, I did it!

This is the recipe I used:

I didn't actually watched the video though. It was very easy to follow. I didn't use an electric mixer and it went well.

Ingredients

3 cups (390 grams) all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (227 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup (200 grams) granulated white sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

striped baby boot

I finished these baby boots! The only problem is that the pattern was a little hard to follow, and I also used cable needles instead of double-pointed needles. But it turned out well, they are so cute! One of them is a bit smaller though.. oops.. :)

Pattern is available in Ravelry - Closeknit's Striped Baby Boots.

Flower~ Isaias 40:8

The grass withers and the flowers fall,    but the word of our God endures forever. -Isaiah 40:8

Hoshimo Tomihiro

Few years ago I came across a little card my Japanese friend gave me, with a really nice poem, really meaningful poems. I decided to search the author again and I found it.

The author is Hoshino Tomihiro. You can google and find more information about him, but this is a quick summary. He became paralyzed from neck down one day as he was a gymnastic teacher. And during his struggles he found God and as he spent years depending on others, he observed flowers that were brought to him and started painting and writing.

This is one example I found on the internet. If you want more information about him, please google!

At the time when I thought life was most important, it was painful for me to live.

On the day when I found there was something more important than life, it became joyful for me to live.

ear/throat infection

So, I've been sick since last Saturday. I first thought it was a quick cold passing by. I only had a sore throat which wasn't that bad, and those usually go away in a day or two, after I take lots of vitamin C and water. But, sore throat didn't go away, and it got worse. I got ear pain. My throat was even more painful, hard to swallow anything.

Anyway, I went to the doctor and got Antibiotics and gargling med for the throat and I also put it on facebook, to see how other people deal with this horrible infection.

Here are some of suggestions I got:

- Hot water with honey and lemon
- Medicated lozenges
- Breathing some steam (head under hot towel over the sink while running super hot water in the sink)
- Antihistamine to stop ear fluids coming out
- Tylenol to relieve pain
- Ginger chicken soup
- Gargle mouth with salt and water every 1/2 hr (if possible)
- Crush a garlic clove in olive oil and put few drops in the ear (twice a day)
- 400mg ibuprofen for anti inflammatory and 650mg Tylenol for pain
- Warm towel on the affected ear to relieve pain.

I also found some websites about using coconut oil (few drops in the ear). Does it work? maybe I'll try it next time but I really really hope I'll never ever get this infection again. It's sooooo painful.

From Pearl Harbor to Calvary by Mitsuo Fujida

Not too long ago I heard about ChristianAudio site where they give one free audiobook a month. And one month the free book was this book, From Pearl Harbor to Calvary. What a right timing. I've been thinking a lot about meeting with Japanese Christians, reading the Bible in Japanese, and how I can help my family know about God. This book was amazing, a great testimony and I hope I can get it in Japanese.

Banff, Lake Louise

On my second trip to Calgary, I decided to go to Banff. With my co-workers we rented a car a drove over. It was a fun trip, relaxing and breathtaking. It's sooooo beautiful. Unfortunately, pictures can only show so much of it. Definitely, this is a MUST place to go.

I could sit there for few hours and just admire the nature. God's creation is perfect. And we forget too that we are His creation and when we let God live through us, we are so beautiful.

Thank God for all this wonderful people He put in my life, and letting me see His creation wherever I go. I want to let God live through me.

We also went to Johnston Canyon which is near by, and if you take the short hiking path, you reach a waterfall. It was quite amazing too.

Calgary Stampede

I had no clue about this event in Calgary until I was about to arrive and hearing it from my co-workers. And I was a bit skeptical about it, but I decided to go. It was great!

They were celebrating 100 years Stampede, it's been done since 2012! I really enjoyed seeing the animals, and learning a bit more about farm life. I also loved the Indian village and see their clothing and dances.

Waiting for His timing

No one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for the one who waits for Him. Isaiah 64:4

This blog post has really encouraged me today and it's a good reminder that sometimes (or actually often times) we have to wait patiently to get answers from our prayers.

This is an amazing testimony. There's nothing impossible for God and God does not judge appearances but looks into the hearts. And we are saved by faith!

CCEL-Reading Old Letters- The Manners of Christians

I love reading old letters, and learning about how Christianity was formed. This is a great site that has all the letters. I try to read as often as I can but time just goes by fast.

Christian Classic Ethereal Library

So my favorite letter is by Mathetes to Diognetus, chapter V - The Manners of Christians,

"For the Christians are distinguished from other men neither by country, nor language, nor the customs which they observe. For they neither inhabit cities of their own, nor employ a peculiar form of speech, nor lead a life which is marked out by any singularity. The course of conduct which they follow has not been devised by any speculation or deliberation of inquisitive men; nor do they, like some, proclaim themselves the advocates of any merely human doctrines. But, inhabiting Greek as well as barbarian cities, according as the lot of each of them has determined, and following the customs of the natives in respect to clothing, food, and the rest of their ordinary conduct, they display to us their wonderful and confessedly striking method of life. They dwell in their own countries, but simply as sojourners. As citizens, they share in all things with others, and yet endure all things as if foreigners. Every foreign land is to them as their native country, and every land of their birth as a land of strangers. They marry, as do all [others]; they beget children; but they do not destroy their offspring. They  have a common table, but not a common bed. They are in the flesh, but they do not live after the flesh. They pass their days on earth, but they are citizens of heaven. They obey the prescribed laws, and at the same time surpass the laws by their lives. They love all men, and are persecuted by all. They are unknown and condemned; they are put to death, and restored to life. They are poor, yet make many rich; they are in lack of all things, and yet abound in all; they are dishonoured, and yet in their very dishonour are glorified. They are evil spoken of, and yet are justified; they are reviled, and bless; they are insulted, and repay the insult with honour; they do good, yet are punished as evil-doers. When punished, they rejoice as if quickened into life; they are assailed by the Jews as foreigners, and are persecuted by the Greeks; yet those who hate them are unable to assign any reason for their hatred.  "

Know Your Wool-Online Knitting Class!

This morning I went through this course, it was free! I liked learning about the different kind of sheep and their yarn product in the end.

Know Your Wool

It was my first time taking a course through Craftsy. I've signed up with craftsy a while ago, but never really spend time to look what people can do within craftsy and I did't know the online classes are pretty good! And long!

I also had a sneak peak on this free online class:

Short Rows

Lately knits

I've been trying to knit more lately but so far I've knitted a pair of baby booties and a hat and a blanket in the last few months. I'm so happy with the baby booties, instruction was easy to follow and the yarn was perfect. My friend was so happy!

Chicago

So I also went to Chicago few weekends ago to visit one of my best friends M who lives in Wheaton. It was a great visit, relaxing, and discovering a new place. I really loved the town Wheaton, which is about an hour train ride from the Chicago  center. It felt so peaceful.

First picture is a name of the street and the second one is the view of Chicago from the sky. Isn't it amazing?!?!

Venice- Italy

This month, I finally got to go to Lamezia, Italy!! It was soooo beautiful!! My friend and I got lost on the way back, so we got to see a lot of the local areas too. It was really worth the walking with pain (on my legs and feet).  I also went to Munich and Amsterdam but I didn't to do too much tourist staff, so not many pictures...

Photo editing

Lately, I have this desire to edit photos so I'm going to try do that whenever I find little time here and there. And I love taking pictures in the sky. Every time I look out the window when I'm in the sky, I'm just amazed of how beautiful everything is. The mountains, the clouds that keep changing shapes and intensity, the sun shinning through, the ocean, etc. So many things!! And then sometimes I look at houses and buildings. It moves my heart to see how much humans have advanced and are capable of doing.

Anyhow, I'm just so thankful of a Great God. There's no way that I can think that we were created by coincidence. God has made all things and his creation is so beautiful. I can't stop admiring it.

All to Jesus at hotel restaurant

This song was on in the restaurant in Punt Cana!  I recognized it right away!! It filled me with joy!
Watch "All to Jesus I Surrender"

Why read the Bible?

To be honest, I've been a bit lazy in reading the Bible everyday and I love when I do read but somehow I get distracted very easily. And I found an article and had these quotes from JC Ryle:

"Do not think you are getting no good from the Bible, merely because you do not see that good day by day. The greatest effects are by no means those which make the most noise, and are most easily observed. The greatest effects are often silent, quiet, and hard to detect at the time they are being produced. Think of the influence of the moon upon the earth, and of the air upon the human lungs. Remember how silently the dew falls, and how imperceptibly the grass grows. There may be far more doing than you think in your soul by your Bible-reading."  (J. C. Ryle, Practical Religion, 136)

Read your Bible more and more
